We should not forget that the new NEO-POWER© lightweight cabinets will shortly be available:

pjb Ne08Neo 8b

Three years in development, the PJB NEO-POWER cabinets will be available the beginning of March 08. These cabinets carry the same signature tone that has put PJB at the very top when it comes to power, tone and articulation. At the heart of each speaker system is the newly developed PJB NEO-POWER 5 -inch loudspeaker unit. A dedicated bass instrument speaker energized by a rare earth element: NEODYMIUM. (In conjunction with an alloy of Iron and Boron-NeFeB the magnetic field is incredibly powerful; nearly 20 times more than conventional magnetic materials of the same mass.)

Cabinets have extensive bracing and are constructed from ¾ inch Baltic birch plywood, making them light and tough enough to withstand any abuse that will get thrown at them on the road. 3 Models will be available; 6B, 8B and 12B. The number denotes the number of speakers.

'PJB is a brand new company dedicated to raising the bar for quality and performance of bass amplification.

Our staff at PJB shares my passion to build only the best. That does not mean the most expensive. We are dedicated to giving our utmost in quality, value and service to the discriminating bassist.

In 1990 I moved to USA and worked briefly for Boston Acoustics in New England designing their premier loudspeaker range, the Lynnfield series. In 1994 I founded Platinum Audio, which made expensive home hi-fi speakers and studio monitors. In that period I designed probably the worlds most expensive and massive home loudspeaker system: the Air-Pulse, which sold for $175,000 a pair! The Japan Audio Society praised the Air-Pulse as the best loudspeaker ever developed in the 100-year history of loudspeakers!'

PJB Suitcase

We started a revolution in bass amps with the PJB Briefcase. This amp was designed for superb quality sound when used for studio work, small venues and for practicing. Its shortfall: just a little shy on power to give it the punch necessary when playing at realistic live levels with drums.

Now here is the PJB Suitcase.

The Suitcase has the same transparent sound as the Briefcase but it packs more of a punch so you can now use it at any kind of situation including keeping up with a busy drummer. It’s small, lightweight, so it’s easy to get in and out of the gig and it’s easy to get a great sound with just about any bass. It even has two channels so you can play acoustic or electric (or whatever combination suits your needs) and set each channel for your ideal tone. Not only that, you can actually play two instruments through this amp at the same time thanks to its huge internal power supply and solid state output section. How many other amps can support that claim? Its versatile tonal range allows this amp to work with just about any instrument that requires an amplifier. Keyboards, guitar, drum machine, you name it; they will all sound incredible thanks to the four PJB proprietary speakers. At 5 inches they may seem tiny, but they pack a punch across the whole audio spectrum. Deep powerful bass, transparent, natural mids and sizzling highs like you never heard before from an instrument amplifier. >>

“What if I need more power?” you may ask. Just add the compact PJB extension 4B cabinet and you will have all the bass and volume you ever need on a stage. The suitcase has power to spare and you will wonder just how it keeps on giving out all that power with absolute fidelity.

“So how do you do that?” You may ask. That takes us to who we are and what we do. Phil Jones Bass is a division of AAD, American Acoustic Development and is run by passionate bass players. We build our own speakers, electronics and cabinets. We do extensive research and development before we finalize any product. Not only in our fully equipped labs; but also out in the field where real musicians put our gear through a real life test. When we are happy then we know its done and ready to show.

The Suitcase has been through a survival course; it has been dropped, shaken, overloaded, over heated and yes, played through and after all of this, the Suitcase still works. We build it to be not just a great amplifier but a tool that the hard working musicians in our fraternity can truly depend upon.

We know there are many good compact combo amps out there but there is only one Suitcase. Play through every amp you can and then try a Suitcase. You too will agree; nothing can compare.

Six Pack Combo
Although the M500 looks small make no mistake about what it is. The M500 is a very high performance dedicated bass instrument amplifier. It not only has incredible power; the sound quality is as good or better than many so called high-end audio amplifiers used in expensive hi-fi systems or studio monitor systems. It was designed from the ground up to take on the hard work any serious musician will subject it too. It is built from the finest of materials some of, which may not be obvious to the eye like the 2% silver-solder connections that will never fail due to oxidization or simply old age. Just about every other bass amp uses regular 60/40lead/tin solder. Silver solder lasts longer and can actually improve the sound due to lower contact resistance.

The M500 uses M.O.S.F.E.T technology (MOSFET - Metal Oxide Silicon Field Effect Transistor) in the output power amplification stage where they generate the massive amount of power to drive the loudspeakers. Although our MOSFETs are more than 3 times as expensive than bi-polar transistors, they are better suited to the application of bass guitar amplifiers than any other kind of output device. In fact they are the ideal output “device” when it comes to power amplification. The MOSFET devices in the M500 are almost indestructible and it is almost impossible to blow these up by accident.
They truly are far more superior when compared to the standard bipolar devices used in other bass amplifiers. (Typical bipolar devices will blow faster than a fuse can save them)

The M500 has several protection circuits to prevent it from being damaged. Heat and current-limiting sensors detect when the amplifier is nearing danger and will automatically shut down the amp. Even if the fuse blows, there is a second spare fuse located in the back panel to replace it. The M500 sounds more “tube” like than a solid-state amplifier. The M500 is “warmer” sounding than regular bi-polar transistor amps making it more musically appealing. The substantial weight of the M500 is attributed to a massive, high-current, magnetically shielded, torroidal power supply to feed the MOSFETs, along with a huge reservoir, 40,000uF of capacitors. This gives the speakers powerful and punchy bass response with no booming or cone flapping. Even at high volume levels the M500 will control your speakers with a vise like grip. >>

The chassis is made from 1/10-inch thick (2.5-mm) steel improving the grounding and magnetic shielding, which reduces noise. It also makes it incredibly tough to withstand the rigors of the road. No competitor’s bass amps are built this tough. The M500 has a UL approved power transformers and all components have voltage and current ratings well beyond their operating range.

The extensive pre-amp section was engineered for both passive and active basses. A comprehensive 2-section equalization was employed to give unlimited amount of control of bass tone. The compressor circuit was devised to be quick and simple to use yet effective on playing. Great attention was devoted to make this amplifier extremely low noise so it can be used in both recording situations and live performances where is necessary to connect the M500 to other sound equipment such as a mixing console.
